Bison

Interior Alaska Guides and Outfitters , LLC is pleased to be offering guided Bison hunts for the 2010-2011 hunting season. We are a fully licensed and insured guide service with over 20 years of combined Bison hunting experience.

Bison hunting in Alaska is one of the last open range fair chase wild Bison hunts on the planet. Last year only 75% of the total Bison permits issued in Delta Junction hunt resulted in a harvested animal. A  lot of hunters failed to connect for whatever reason (s)... As everyone knows, this permit is one of the most coveted in Alaska. Thousands apply for it - very few people ever draw it. And because regulations recently adopted made it a once-every-ten years draw for residents (and once in a lifetime for non-residents) the odds of ever drawing it a second time are extremely low.

We are here to maximize your hunting experience. While we will not guarantee that you will harvest a Bison, we are very good at what we do and have enjoyed a high success rate over the years (100%).

This is a drawing hunt. Application is November/December. We can help you apply for this permit.

Gear List

Most good quality layered clothing systems work well in interior Alaska, as the weather can be described as dynamic to say the least. It can be 70°ƒ and sunny one day and 15°ƒ and snowing the next. With that in mind, it's a good idea to be prepared for anything. Otherwise, here's a basic equipment list what to bring.

  • LED headlamp and flashlight (with spare batteries)
  • Binoculars
  • Lightweight (packable) good quality rain gear
  • Camera equipment
  • Small dry bags or ziploc bags for cameras, etc.
  • Telescoping walking stick (ski pole style works best)
  • Day pack
  • Knife
  • Sunglasses/spare eyeglasses
  • Personal hygiene items and medicine
  • 2 water bottles
  • 2 pairs hunting pants - one heavy and one light (lined fleece or similar synthetics work best).
  • 2 shirts - one heavy lined fleece and one light. Cotton is NOT a good choice for any hunting clothing.
  • 2 polypropylene t-shirts
  • 1 warm coat
  • 1 light jacket
  • 4 pairs of heavy boot socks
  • 4 pairs liner socks
  • 1 set polypropylene long underwear
  • 3 pairs underwear
  • Light waterproof gloves
  • 1 cold weather hat with ear flaps
  • 1 baseball style hat
  • Lightweight sleeping bag with compression sack good to 0°ƒ
  • Lightweight sleeping pad
  • Rifle with 3 boxes ammunition
  • Boots - a quality pair of comfortable, waterproof, warm, well broken in boots is a must!

For Bison hunters - Well, that's a different story. It's often -20°ƒ or colder in the winter. It's best to discuss winter gear with us over the phone.
